ShadowTech25
In 2025 we had more than 1200 young women from 80+ schools nationwide spend a day with 60+ tech companies.
Students in years 9-11 were given the opportunity to discover the world of tech, spark their curiosity and explore career pathways. Their day-long visits included workplace tours, meeting the team and workshop activities.
ShadowTech grew from 50 participating workplaces in 2023 to 60+ in both 2024 and 2025. In 2025 ShadowTech was hosted in nine locations across Aotearoa: Auckland, Tauranga, Waikato, Palmerston North, Wellington, Nelson, Christchurch, Timaru, and Dunedin.
Feedback from students and teachers so far has been insightful and helpful for planning next year’s programme.
Student feedback:
“Being able to interact with successful women in positions of power regarding tech was really special. That could be us!”
“I found it really interesting to learn about all the possible jobs you can have in tech and the different pathways that lead to them.”

“I really enjoyed learning more about what they do and the challenges they face. And we got to talk/ask questions to their CEO which was awesome and we got to learn about how she became CEO.”
Teacher feedback:
“It was inspiring to see the engagement of the year ten students. They participated in all the activities. The problems and answers were authentic. The activities were closely tied to our school curriculum. Thank you so much for inviting us.” – Maria Louw, Auckland Girls’ Grammar School
“Please let the businesses know how much of an impact they have on the kids. I have students who do it in year 10 and remember the event and talk about it when they come to see me for careers appointments in year 13.” – Kim Swann, Hagley College – Te Puna Wai o Waipapa

“ShadowTech New Zealand is an inspiring program that connects young women with female role models in the tech industry, giving them valuable workplace exposure and breaking down common stereotypes about careers in technology. I’ve supported ShadowTech for several years and always see the positive impact it has, broadening horizons, building confidence, and helping girls see themselves in these professions. Programs like this are vital for showing what’s possible and empowering the next generation of women in tech.” – Susana Tomaz, Westlake Girls High School
