2024 Programme

ShadowTech24

In 2024 we had more than 1000 young women from 76 schools nationwide spend a day with 90 tech companies.

Students in years 9-11 were given the opportunity to discover the world of tech, spark their curiosity and explore career pathways. Their day-long visits included workplace tours, meeting the team and workshop activities.

ShadowTech grew from 50 participating workplaces in 2023 to 69 in 2024. Plus, Gisborne and Timaru were new hosting cities. In 2024, ShadowTech was hosted in Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, Gisborne, Tauranga, Timaru, Waikato and Wellington.

Feedback from students and  teachers so far has been insightful and helpful for planning next year’s programme.

Student feedback:

“I enjoyed learning about the different ways people work at Sandfields. I gained a lot of insight into the company and some of the techniques they use in their daily operations. It was also exciting to apply knowledge I learned at school last year to one of the activities, which made the experience even more enjoyable.”

“One of the many things that stood out to me was when they talked about various tech jobs in their company and how many tech jobs there are in the industry. From being a software engineer to a product manager and everything in between, there was definitely something for everyone.”

Teacher feedback:

“Getting the real life experience-opportunity to hear and meet women in Tech careers and learn about job opportunities in Tech.”  – Sangeeta Kumar, Tangaroa College.

“The kids really enjoyed themselves and had a great day. They had plenty of questions for the panel at the end and wanted to take heaps of photos and say goodbye to everyone. The interactive sessions were really engaging as were the talks from the different departments. Overall an awesome experience for the girls which I hope they keep in mind as they get older and think about careers. We appreciate the mahi of all involved.”  – Waitakere College
